CYPRESS HILL – RISE UP
****
EMI

Nearly 20 years after their debut album, the hip hop trendsetters are back with a winner. The avant-garde group once again xperiments with various genres, primarily rock and hip hop, to produce the unique sound that made them underground rap-royalty in the early Nineties. ‘Rise Up’ and ‘It Ain’t Nothing’ are particularly well-engineered tracks.

THE LYRIC OF HIP HOP PANTSULA LIVE
***
EMI

This is a live DVD recording of South Africa’s premier motswako artist, HHP. Among others, it features hip hop artist Proverb on hit tracks ‘Harambe’, ‘Let Me Be’, ‘Danger’ and ‘Leloko La Kekoko’. HHP is an energetic performer who knows how to engage the crowd and provide an interactive performance. Fans will love this one.

USHER – RAYMOND VS RAYMOND
*
EMI

The R&B crooner is back with a new album after disappointing sales of his previous title Here I Stand. The hit-maker wallows in the aftermath of his recent divorce and his lyrics, reflecting his pain, are nothing short of uninspired. It’s not all melancholic though, there are some fast-paced singles such as ‘Little Freak’ featuring Nicki Minaj.

SADE – SOLDIER OF LOVE
***
EMI

After a 10-year gap Sade returns with her sixth studio album in a 25-year musical career. The British star sticks to her hit-making formula of simple yet deeply profound songwriting that made previous albums such as Lovers Rock classics. Every track is beautifully rendered and well thought out. This is a must-have for any Sade fan.

HOUSE ANTHEMS 9
****
EMI

Mixed by DJs Kevin Grenfell, Justin Vee and Roger D’Lux, this triple-disc album is all the house music you’ll ever need. Divided into three categories – commercial hits, club bangers and tech house – it features artists such as David Guetta, Kid Cudi, Locnville and Riva Starr. Sure to get you in the mood for a party night.
