Spring Awakening

How to wear this season’s most beautiful colours. By Juana Parathyras.
Luminous skin
Spring is all about shimmer. We love the look of it on eyes, cheeks and skin.
- Day or night: Build your shimmer by layering different products. During the day or for work, keep it to a light dusting on the eyes and cheeks, with a slick of sparkle on the lips. For a night out, create beautiful dewy skin with a face illuminator and highlight cheekbones and cheeks with a dusting of bronzer.
- Spot on: The best place for shimmer is in the corners of your eyes blended across your lids, just under your eyebrow or on your cheeks. Stay away from heavy sparkle under the eyes or in the crease – shimmer can settle and will exaggerate lines and wrinkles.
- Choose your shade: Fair-skinned girls can wear almost any shade of sparkle, but make sure you blend carefully to avoid harsh lines. Dark skins should stay away from icy silver tones and rather opt for warm colours like bronze and purple.
Tip: Watch what you wear. If your outfit has a sparkle, keep shimmer to a single feature like your eyes.
Coral couture
It’s the perfect shade when pink feels clichéd and red just too vampy.
- One for all: Coral is the perfect shade to com- plement fair, olive or chocolate skin tones. This tropical hue adds much-needed colour after dreary winter months. Wear it on your lids blended with a matching shade of pink. Peach and pink hues bring out the soft, warm tones of your skin.
- Lip talk: Stay away from mattes and opt instead for glosses and lipsticks that you apply with your finger (the stick itself can make the colour too heavy). You want it to look as if you just ate a piece of fruit.
- Just peachy: For the appearance of being made-up without looking too girly or bronzy, apply a peach blush to your cheeks. Apply it high on the cheekbones for a natural-looking glow. The trend is dewy, so keep the colour soft and subtle.
Tip: Try it on your toes for pretty spring feet.
Pretty Popsicle
A palette of soft blues, purples, and other sorbet shadows is popping up all over.
- Eye catching: A minty green or a dusty rose blended across your eyelids suits almost every skin tone. Finish with a few coats of black mascara to give your lashes fullness and eyes a doll-like appearance. For a pretty day look, line your top lid with a light blue or yellow liner.
- Pout perfect: Beautiful dewy skin is best complemented with a creamy pastel gloss on the lips. Pinks and corals are the freshest shades. Keep the rest of your make-up neutral with a flick of black eyeliner and mascara.
- Yummy nails: Break out of your nude nail polish habit and adorn your hands and toes with pinks, purples and even blues. It’s the easiest way to incorporate the ice cream colour trend into your everyday look. Lavender and rose shades are great for work, but keep the blues and greens for the weekend.
Tip: Pastel shades can streak, so apply a base coat and at least two thin coats of colour.
